Environmental Offences

Part of South Africa’s petroleum-industry integrity and responsible-reporting platform.

Report suspected petroleum-related environmental offences or serious environmental misconduct in South Africa.

What environmental concerns can include

Concerns may involve spills, dumping, leaks, contamination, unsafe disposal, improper handling of petroleum products or conduct that appears to create an environmental or public-health risk.

Information that can help

  • Exact location and date.
  • Product involved where known.
  • Facility, operator, vehicle or tanker details.
  • Visible impact such as soil, water or drainage contamination.
  • Lawfully obtained photographs, video or incident records.
  • Details of any emergency or environmental authority already contacted.

Do not enter contaminated or hazardous areas

Do not approach spills, vapours, fire risks or contaminated areas to gather evidence. If there is an active spill, fire or immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency or competent environmental authority first.

Preserve observations

Record what you observed, when and from where. Keep original photographs and files unchanged wherever possible.
