Concerns may involve suspected theft from a depot, tanker, retail site, business or storage facility; unexplained diversion of loads; unauthorised offloading; stock losses linked to suspicious conduct; or unlawful possession and resale of petroleum products.
Information that may help assessment
- Date, time and location of the incident.
- Vehicle, tanker, trailer or registration details.
- Depot, supplier, customer or delivery identifiers.
- Delivery notes, route records, stock reconciliations or access logs.
- Lawfully obtained photographs, video or witness information.
- Details of any police or internal case reference already created.
Do not intervene if there is danger
Fuel theft can involve organised criminal activity. Do not confront suspected offenders, follow vehicles, enter restricted areas or expose yourself to danger to obtain additional evidence. If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate safety risk, contact the appropriate emergency or law-enforcement authority first.
Preserve records
Keep original digital files, CCTV exports, route data, delivery records and contemporaneous notes unchanged wherever possible. Record who obtained and handled each item.
